Background
The early believers moved to Alor Setar because of their work. Dn Ho CHong Seng of Sg. Petani Church often came to Alor Setar to do pastoral work as he wanted to nurture the faith of the brethren. He suggested and guided the brethren in the setting up of a prayer house for worship. As a result, the Alor Setar church service began in 1956 on the first floor of Bro Chin Kwong Nyean's house at No.15, Jalan Tiga, Telok Wanjah.
The early workers were Dn Paul Lee, Dn James Lee and Dns Lydia Seow.
As the number of members increased, the prayer house was found too small for worship. A house along Jalan Satu of Telok Wanjah was rented, Alor Setar Church was established in 1963. However, it was burnt down. After that, a decision was during a general meeting that services were to be held temporarily at Dns Lydia's house. After a while, members felt that in order to carry out divine work, they should have a church of their own. With God's grace, a new house was bought for that purpose in 1966. In April 18, 1969, the building was dedicated to the Lord Jesus. At present, besides Friday evening services there are family bible study sessions and one RE class.
